The Rainforest Foundation UK has been selected for the second year in a row to participate in The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2011 and benefit from this fantastic match-funding scheme run by The Big Give.

The Big Give encourages "intelligent philanthropy" by enabling donors to obtain information confidentially on how a charity uses donations. The Big Give website features chosen charities and each year in December it runs a week-long on-line match-giving Christmas Challenge that allows donors to double their donations . In 2009 the challenge raised £8.5 million; and last year an incredible £9.3 million.
The challenge is the brainchild of Sir Alec Reed, the founder of Reed, the recruitment agency. He started The Big Give website to help to inform donors after he tried to give away £1 million and couldn't find a means of giving it away intelligently.

The Rainforest Foundation has been selected as one of the chosen charities for The Big Give Christmas Challenge and we are now aiming to raise £32,000, which will be matched, releasing an additional £32,000 and bringing the total to £64,000. The challenge runs from the 5th to the 9th December 2011, with all funds raised going to support our work in the Congo Basin and Amazon rainforests.

How to double your donations during the Big Give Christmas Challenge:

2) Make a donation - every pound will help!
3) See how your donations will help us protect twice as much rainforest as gets matched by the Big Give.

Why take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge?

A donation made through the Big Give will be worth twice its original value as it unlocks additional funding from an external sponsor, who will double public donations.

Last year with your support we doubled £10,000 which helped us support the implementation of new laws in the Congo Basin that allow for the recognition of indigenous community ownership or possession of forest lands. As a result, in the Central African Republic rainforest communities now have the opportunity to start applying for and obtaining community forests as a way of protecting their environment.

This year we hope to triple that figure taking full advantage of this amazing opportunity to protect twice as much rainforest.
