Challenge Yourself

Year 3, Thornhill School, Islington (above) and Bishop Heber High School (below)

Ever fancied doing the three peaks challenge? Or think cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End sounds like a fun idea? If you’re someone who likes a challenge why not take up your challenge of a lifetime and fundraise for the Rainforest Foundation UK at the same time.

Fulfill those personal ambitions and challenges – whether it’s a 3 mile non stop unicycle ride like 10 year old Theo from Devon, a read-athon like Jenny from Wiltshire, or cycling across Wales like Lee from Aberystwith fundraising is a great excuse to get out there and do something you love – whilst raising money and awareness for something you’re passionate about – saving rainforests!

You can set up your own on-line fundraising page through Just Giving and email or call 02074850193 for sponsorship forms, fundraising materials and support along the way.

Two great examples of some fantastic recent efforts can be found here:

Bishop Heber High School in Malpas, Cheshire, nominated the Rainforest Foundation UK as one of their three charities of the year in 2008. Throughout the course of the year students and staff raised a fantastic £1000 towards our work with rainforest communities. Fundraising events included non-uniform days, a sixth form revue, discos and many individual form enterprise activities such as cake sales. We would like to thank everyone at Bishop Heber for the hard work and dedication they have put into fundraising. This donation will make a great difference to our work, helping rainforest communities to save 40 acres of rainforest - a fantastic achievement. We hope all involved are proud of what they have done to help us to keep rainforests standing.

In July 2008, 11 children from year 3 at Thornhill School, Islington, London all aged 7 & 8 yrs took part in a Swim-a-thon in the Cally pool. Inspired by what they learnt at school about rainforests, they swam 20 non stop lengths of the Cally small pool and had to avoid the danger of a pool shark played by one parent, Andie Scott to raise funds for the Rainforest Foundation UK. All the swimmers worked very hard to complete their target, and for one competitor it was her first time swimming without floats. Between them the children from Thornhill Primary school raised a very impressive £625. This donation will help us to protect 25 acres of rainforest under our protect an acre scheme - an area the size of over 80 Olympic sized swimming pools! It is a fantastic achievement and everyone at the Rainforest Foundation UK would like to say a massive thank you to all involved.
