Rights for Baka, Bakola and Bagyeli
This project aims to reduce the local and national barriers to citizenship and land rights for Baka, Bagyeli and Bakola “hunter gatherer” peoples in Cameroon
This project aims to reduce the local and national barriers to citizenship and land rights for Baka, Bagyeli and Bakola “hunter gatherer” peoples in Cameroon by educating communities about their rights and attempting to influence policy makers.
The project works on three levels:
- at a community level, training community members to take on project design, planning and implementation and to act as local resource people for their communities;
- at a national level to support NGOs and community organisations to improve their work with Baka, Bagyeli and Bakola people, responding to the needs as expressed by local communities
- and at a policy level, to produce documentation and reports with the participation of the peoples concerned that can be used as effective advocacy tools in influencing decision makers to recognise forest peoples’ rights.
