People have lived in and protected the rainforest for thousands of years. The original inhabitants are called INDIGENOUS RAINFOREST PEOPLE. Today, some 50 million indigenous people depend on the rainforest for their survival.

Meet Mirim. He is part of the Kayapo community who live in Brazil. Hello, Mirim!

Did you know there are many different communities of indigenous rainforest people, who each speak their own language and have their own ancient traditions? Two examples are the the Ashaninka from Peru and the Baka Pygmies from Cameroon.
