Marathons
18th March 2012. There can be few more impressive cities to run around than Rome and with spring in Italy bringing lovely warm weather this is a great spring marathon choice - and voted as the top choice by Runner's World survey of city marathons. As a participant in the Rome Marathon, you get to drink in the city's historic atmosphere right from the beginning. The start line is placed in front of the 2,000 year old Coliseum, and from here the course is a veritable festival of magnificent sights. Among other things, you will run past Saint Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps and through a lot of picturesque, narrow streets in the old part of the city. If you're looking for the ideal combination of athletic challenges and a nice weekend of sight-seeing, that's the marathon for you. To secure a place please email events@rainforestuk.org or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we will send you an application form and info pack to get you off and running!
15th April 2012. We have several places available for the 2012 Brighton Marathon so why not take one and run for the rainforest! Come on - join our team! Just email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we'll send you an application pack and you'll be quickly on your way with all the info and a fancy rainforest running vest all of your own! Brighton Marathon have accepted 18,000 entries for next year's race, a 20% increase on their 2011 event, which puts the event into the top 12 running events across the UK. The race route starts with a loop of gorgeous Preston Park, and then takes in the best of the city centre including Brighton Pavilion and fabulous stretches of coastal road, including panoramic views that you'd expect where the glorious South Downs meet the English Channel. Generally, it is a fast course, held exclusively on roads and tarmac promenade.
15th April 2012. The Paris Marathon is one of the oldest of the big city marathons and pre-dates London by 4 years - equalling London in its size - with 40,000 runners each year. The course has changed several times since its inception, but the route for the last 10 years or so is now well established and is an essential sightseeing tour of the city; starting on the Champs Elysees and running down the wide Boulevard to Place du Concorde, past the Louvre and out to the east of the city. It then joins the banks of the River Seine and returns past Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower on the way to the finish at the Arc de Triomphe on Avenue Foch. For the Paris Marathon we work in conjunction with 2.09 Events Ltd, who are an official tour operator for the race. They package up guaranteed places in the race with flights and (if you require it) accommodation. They also offer supporter packages should you want to invite friends and family to cheer you on. We do not ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge for the Paris Marathon because we have to ask you to buy your own place in the race, however, we do offer an optional refund scheme to runners who choose RFUK as their charity. If you are interested in a place or you have your own place and you would you like to run for us, please contact Matilde at matildef@rainforestuk.org or on 02074850193.
22nd April 2012. If you have a place in the Marathon but no one to run for and still would like to join our team - welcome! Just email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we'll send you a pack with our vest and info! Considered one of the most popular and exciting events in the global running calendar, the 2011 London Marathon course is flat and fast. It starts in Blackheath, heads east through Charlton and Woolwich for three miles, turns west and passes the Cutty Sark in Greenwich after six to seven miles. It crosses the River Thames at Tower Bridge and then loops around the east end of London, past Canary Wharf in Docklands, before heading west again along the Highway and the Embankment to Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk and the final corner in front of Buckingham Palace.
30th September 2012. The Berlin Marathon first started in 13th October 1974 on a minor road next to the stadium of the organisers‘ club SC Charlottenburg Berlin where 286 athletes had entered. One of the first winners, Günter Hallas (2:44:53), still runs the BERLIN-MARATHON today alongside over 40,000 other competitors!
Berlin has long been renowned for its slick organisation and fast course, and its route is one of the most compelling ever, passing through famous and infamous districts on excellent roads and finally passing through the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of the old divide between east and west, just before the finish line. For the Berlin Marathon we work in conjunction with 2.09 Events Ltd, who are an official tour operator for the race. They package up guaranteed places in the race with flights and (if you require it) accommodation. They also offer supporter packages should you want to invite friends and family to cheer you on. We do not ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge for the Berlin Marathon because we have to ask you to buy your own place in the race, however, we do offer an optional refund scheme to runners who choose RFUK as their charity. 4th November 2012. If you want to run a marathon, then The ING New York City Marathon should be at the top of your list. The city is big, brash and exciting - the marathon is equally so. You will run through a melting pot of ethnic and cultural influences as you leave suburban Staten Island, run through Brooklyn and Queens before crossing into Manhattan, briefly pass through the Bronx and finish in Central Park. The crowds are the best, the loudest, the most fun - simply they are New Yorkers and they are determined to welcome ‘the World to Run' as the New York Road Runner's are proud to claim. For the New York Marathon we work in conjunction with 2.09 Events Ltd, who are an official tour operator for the race. They package up guaranteed places in the race with flights and (if you require it) accommodation. They also offer supporter packages should you want to invite friends and family to cheer you on. We do not ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge for the ING New York City because we have to ask you to buy your own place in the race, however, we do offer an optional refund scheme to runners who choose RFUK as their charity.
