Rainforest group’s headquarters ransacked
The headquarters of Rainforest Foundation UK partner Brainforest in Gabon were ransacked this week stripping the environmental organisation of key documents and computers.
Brainforest director Marc Ona believes the vandalism was a planned attack by factions opposed to the work his organisation does to protect rainforests and safeguard the rights of indigenous forest peoples.
Brainforest is known for taking on corporations intent on exploiting the Gabonese rainforest. “Thieves will not find confidential information on the computers that could serve their interests,” according to Marc Ona.
“There are people who do not agree with what we do,” he said. “But that is not what worries me. I am concerned with the state of instability here that makes crimes like this quite common.”
