Really Wild Drinks partners with the Rainforest Foundation to build school programme

Date: 09/01/2008
Britvic is embarking on a new cause-related partnership for its 100% natural school-focussed brand, Really Wild Drinks Co, which will see a donation of £25K going to the Rainforest Foundation for the development of a school programme in the Cameroon rainforest.

The Really Wild Drinks donation will give young indigenous people, who suffer from extreme poverty and discrimination in the Cameroon rainforest, access to education so that they have the skills and tools to participate in the development process and confidence to stand up for their rights.

Launched in January 2007, the Really Wild Drinks range was designed to comply with new guidelines for drinks in schools while providing an option that appeals to teenagers. The range comprises six natural juice drinks available in colourfully-designed slim 250ml cans, available through vending and over-counter sales in schools only.

Details of the Rainforest Foundation donation will be featured on Really Wild Drinks packs from January 2008.

According to Lauretta Taupin, corporate responsibility advisor at Britvic, “We are delighted to be working with the Rainforest Foundation on a project that gives young people access to education that they would not otherwise have. We know that young people in the UK are increasingly concerned about global sustainability so this partnership is a perfect fit for the Really Wild Drinks brand which was created specifically for schools in the UK.”

According to Simon Counsell, Director of the Rainforest Foundation, “The Really Wild Drinks partnership allows us to make a direct and positive difference to a community where lack of access to education can exacerbate the risk of marginalisation and exploitation. This generous contribution from Really Wild Drinks will provide much needed funding for the programme and the on-pack communication will help us raise awareness of the importance of supporting the indigenous peoples of our world’s rainforests.”

The development of the education project in Cameroon will commence in 2008. The Rainforest Foundation will be working with indigenous organisations and local non-government organisations to implement the project.

The Really Wild Drinks Co. range is part of Britvic’s ongoing strategy to innovative with new products that cater to changes in consumer tastes as well as changes to industry’s regulatory environment.

The flavours include: Apple & Blackcurrant and Orange & Pineapple flavours made with 70 per cent juice and 30 per cent water and available in both still and sparkling; and Apple & Prickly Pear and Orange & Mango flavours made with 100 per cent pure fruit juice. Each drink counts as one of the five recommended portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
