Todas las sociedades fueron testigos de c\u00f3mo las comunidades m\u00e1s vulnerables eran tambi\u00e9n las m\u00e1s expuestas al COVID-19. Lo mismo ocurri\u00f3 en Camer\u00fan, donde las comunidades ind\u00edgenas no se consideraban prioritarias a pesar de su mayor riesgo. Afortunadamente, la organizaci\u00f3n de base\u00a0<em>Apoyo a la promoci\u00f3n e inserci\u00f3n profesional de mujeres, j\u00f3venes y desempleados\u00a0<\/em>(APIFED) ha liderado una iniciativa para concienciar sobre los peligros del COVID-19 y dotar a las comunidades de herramientas para protegerse contra su propagaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_2003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2003\" style=\"width: 253px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/3de18fb9-51d4-4d9b-82a4-9cd39056d92c-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Comunidades baka en la selva.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<p>En los alrededores de la Reserva Faun\u00edstica de Dja, patrimonio de la humanidad, APIFED lucha contra la propagaci\u00f3n del virus entre las comunidades desde que en marzo se detectaron los primeros casos en Camer\u00fan. Huyendo de las estrictas medidas de aislamiento y de las altas tasas de infecci\u00f3n, muchos residentes metropolitanos emigraron a las zonas rurales para alojarse en aldeas donde pod\u00edan acceder a las medicinas tradicionales de los curanderos ind\u00edgenas. Sin embargo, la afluencia de estos habitantes de las ciudades supuso un grave riesgo para la salud de las comunidades ind\u00edgenas de la zona. Cuando los forasteros visitan una aldea, son acogidos de acuerdo con las tradiciones consuetudinarias y siguen residiendo en ella, donde entran en estrecho contacto con los miembros de la comunidad. As\u00ed pues, las aldeas de los alrededores de la Reserva Faun\u00edstica de Dja constitu\u00edan un caldo de cultivo perfecto para el COVID-19.<\/p>\r\n<p>Cuando la pandemia lleg\u00f3 por primera vez a Camer\u00fan, muchas comunidades cre\u00edan que el virus s\u00f3lo afectaba a la poblaci\u00f3n urbana. Sin embargo, a medida que se difund\u00edan noticias de casos en los que las personas daban positivo en las pruebas de COVID-19, los miembros de la comunidad empezaron a vivir con miedo a contraer el virus, sobre todo por la falta de servicios sanitarios en la zona. Un fuerte estigma se apoder\u00f3 de quienes enfermaban o daban positivo, lo que permiti\u00f3 que el virus se propagara de forma invisible.<\/p>\r\n<p>Siguiendo estrictas directrices de seguridad, APIFED distribuy\u00f3 material de protecci\u00f3n como guantes y mascarillas, instal\u00f3 puestos para lavarse las manos, coloc\u00f3 folletos informativos en las lenguas locales baka y bulu, y en general inform\u00f3 a las comunidades sobre c\u00f3mo reducir la propagaci\u00f3n del COVID-19 al tiempo que disminu\u00eda el estigma asociado a \u00e9l. Sus esfuerzos tuvieron un gran \u00e9xito en las 42 comunidades visitadas por APIFED. La gente empez\u00f3 a llevar m\u00e1scaras, a lavarse m\u00e1s las manos, a evitar los abrazos y a limitar el contacto directo con los forasteros en su aldea.<\/p>\r\n\t<p>Para difundir a\u00fan m\u00e1s el mensaje, APIFED difundi\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de emisoras de radio comunitarias en las lenguas locales y en el programa de televisi\u00f3n\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=42DHENeaVD0&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visi\u00f3n de Camer\u00fan<\/a>\u00a0en Canal2. Quiz\u00e1 lo m\u00e1s electrizante fue la canci\u00f3n producida por\u00a0<em>Inyecci\u00f3n Mutumbu,\u00a0<\/em>famoso m\u00fasico baka y presentador del programa\u00a0<em>Horizonte Baka\u00a0<\/em>que se emite en la emisora de radio comunitaria\u00a0<em>AKOAFEM<\/em>. En\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/media.ashx\/audio-2020-08-10-17-49-27.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canci\u00f3n<\/a>titulado\u00a0<em>Corona va-t-en\u00a0<\/em>o \"Corona vete\", expresa la necesidad de tomarse en serio el COVID-19 y las instrucciones b\u00e1sicas para ayudar a reducir su propagaci\u00f3n. Como figura querida y muy seguida entre las comunidades baka,\u00a0<em>Inyecci\u00f3n Mutumbu<\/em>La canci\u00f3n de la Sra. Kolman se emit\u00eda regularmente en las radios comunitarias y, sin duda, fue escuchada por miles de personas.<\/p>\r\n<p>APIFED tambi\u00e9n moviliz\u00f3 a la administraci\u00f3n local para ampliar el programa de pruebas en comunidades forestales remotas y ha colaborado con otras partes interesadas, como organismos estatales, ONG, entidades religiosas, grupos de mujeres y organizaciones comunitarias, para difundir el mensaje.<\/p>\r\n<p>Aunque se est\u00e1 llevando a cabo una labor inspiradora sobre el terreno, se necesita m\u00e1s para ayudar a las comunidades a protegerse contra la persistente amenaza del COVID-19 y para reconstruir las econom\u00edas locales devastadas por el virus. Al igual que los gobiernos de todo el mundo est\u00e1n intensificando sus esfuerzos contra una segunda oleada del virus, APIFED est\u00e1 librando una lucha similar en el sur de Camer\u00fan.
