Ayer, el equipo de la Rainforest Foundation UK estuvo en los bosques cercanos a Abong-Mbang (Camer\u00fan). Hablamos con seis miembros de una comunidad local, incluido el jefe, sobre los problemas a los que se enfrentan en relaci\u00f3n con la explotaci\u00f3n ilegal de sus bosques. Para ellos, el bosque es su vida, su medio de vida. Sencillamente, no pueden vivir sin \u00e9l.<\/p>\n

Muchas personas hablaron de la\u00a0Moabi<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u00e1rbol y su importancia para el pueblo. El aceite, derivado de las nueces, tiene m\u00faltiples usos para las poblaciones forestales de Camer\u00fan. Cecile (en la foto de arriba, a la derecha) nos cont\u00f3 que remojar las nueces en agua caliente e ingerirlas puede aliviar el dolor de espalda. El aceite tambi\u00e9n se utiliza para cocinar. A la comunidad local le preocupa perder este \u00e1rbol por la explotaci\u00f3n ilegal, sobre todo por lo valiosa que es su corteza.<\/p>\n

La gente del bosque como Cecile entiende mejor que nadie lo importante que es preservar la biodiversidad de la selva tropical. Para ellos, mantener la selva es m\u00e1s que una necesidad ecol\u00f3gica: es un imperativo existencial.<\/p>\n

Por la tarde, el equipo de observadores comunitarios reci\u00e9n formados se desplaz\u00f3 al bosque cercano al pueblo para poner en pr\u00e1ctica lo aprendido durante la formaci\u00f3n de esta semana.<\/p>\n

Cada grupo utiliz\u00f3 el software ForestLink para enviar una \"alerta\" de prueba al sistema, que fue recibida en tiempo real por Peter Foster, coordinador del SIG de RFUK, en nuestras oficinas de Londres.<\/p>\n

El Coordinador de Cartograf\u00eda de RFUK, Georges-Thierry Handja, declar\u00f3 que no pod\u00eda estar m\u00e1s contento con el equipo tras una semana tan exitosa.<\/p>\n

\"Creo que los observadores comunitarios est\u00e1n m\u00e1s que preparados para empezar a denunciar las actividades ilegales que se est\u00e1n produciendo ahora mismo en sus bosques, actividades que amenazan el modo de vida de sus comunidades y la biodiversidad de la selva camerunesa.\"<\/p>\n
