La comunidad ...<\/p>\r\n<p>Las reiteradas peticiones de la comunidad al ministerio para que aborde las m\u00faltiples denuncias de tala ilegal por parte de la empresa Transport Bois N\u00e9goce International (TBNI) en su unidad de concesi\u00f3n de gesti\u00f3n forestal FMU-2, situada en la carretera de Makoko a Mekambo, se han topado en gran medida con el silencio. Las supuestas ilegalidades incluyen la falta de estudios de impacto social y medioambiental, el no establecimiento de un acuerdo justo de reparto de beneficios con el pueblo y la destrucci\u00f3n de lugares sensibles (se ha recopilado una lista completa en una tabla que se adjunta a la carta).<\/p>\r\n\t<blockquote><p>\"La zona que est\u00e1 en el permiso de TBNI contiene nuestros pueblos ancestrales. Tenemos fe en el Ministerio\".<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n<p>H.B Betotobiaya, telediario vespertino de Gab\u00f3n 14 de abril de 2021<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Destroyed-ancestral-village.jpg\" alt=\"Aldea ancestral destruida.\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"1120\" width=\"1680\" title=\"Aldea ancestral destruida\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\r\n\t\tAldea ancestral destruida.\r\n\t<p>Aparentemente envalentonados, la empresa y su subcontratista Wan Chuan Timber Sarl (WCTS) se disponen ahora a explotar el bosque intacto al sur del r\u00edo Liboumba. Esto amenaza hasta 11.300 hect\u00e1reas de la tierra ancestral de la comunidad, varios lugares sagrados y una zona de gran importancia biocultural con poblaciones de elefante africano de bosque, gorila de llanura, chimpanc\u00e9 y pangol\u00edn gigante registradas all\u00ed.<\/p>\r\n<p>Ante estas amenazas, apoyamos plenamente\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iccaconsortium.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/letter-of-support-for-massaha-eng.pdf\">Los esfuerzos de Massaha por crear una zona protegida gestionada por la comunidad<\/a>\u00a0all\u00ed. Este tipo de iniciativa ofrece una importante alternativa al modelo militarizado de conservaci\u00f3n estricta que prevalece en gran parte de Gab\u00f3n y de la regi\u00f3n en general y que ha provocado graves consecuencias para los derechos humanos.<\/p>\r\n<p>Esto llega en un momento en que los esfuerzos de Gab\u00f3n por presentarse como l\u00edder medioambiental en la regi\u00f3n se han puesto en entredicho. El a\u00f1o pasado se le concedi\u00f3 un\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-africa-57567829\">pago de $17 millones de la Iniciativa Forestal Centroafricana (CAFI)<\/a>\u00a0para reducir las emisiones derivadas de la deforestaci\u00f3n y la degradaci\u00f3n forestal en 2016-17, aunque los datos de\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/ca9825en\/ca9825en.pdf\">la FAO<\/a>\u00a0y\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalforestwatch.org\/dashboards\/country\/GAB\/?category=summary&amp;location=WyJjb3VudHJ5IiwiR0FCIl0%3D&amp;map=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%3D&amp;treeLossPct=eyJoaWdobGlnaHRlZCI6ZmFsc2V9\">Global Forest Watch<\/a>\u00a0muestra que la p\u00e9rdida de bosque primario ha aumentado en estos a\u00f1os, alcanzando la deforestaci\u00f3n su tercer nivel m\u00e1s alto desde 2001. Tambi\u00e9n hay varios grandes proyectos de industrias extractivas, agroindustrias e infraestructuras destinados a zonas ecol\u00f3gicamente sensibles del pa\u00eds, mientras que los planes para convertir a Gab\u00f3n en el primer pa\u00eds en certificar todas sus concesiones madereras con la etiqueta FSC se han retrasado hasta 2025.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>Joe Eisen, Director Ejecutivo de RFUK, ha declarado<\/p>\r\n<blockquote><p>\"La situaci\u00f3n a la que se enfrenta Massaha desmiente el estatus de Gab\u00f3n como supuesto l\u00edder medioambiental de la regi\u00f3n.
