{"id":8125,"date":"2024-06-13T14:18:13","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T13:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/?p=8125"},"modified":"2024-06-13T15:07:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T14:07:27","slug":"defensa-de-la-proteccion-forestal-comunitaria-en-la-reunion-de-la-asociacion-forestal-de-la-cuenca-del-congo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/es\/making-the-case-for-community-led-forest-protection-at-the-congo-basin-forest-partnership-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Defensa de la protecci\u00f3n forestal comunitaria en la reuni\u00f3n de la Asociaci\u00f3n Forestal de la Cuenca del Congo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t\n\t<p>Last week in Kinshasa, APEM, CAD and other RFUK partners participated in the 20th meeting of the parties of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership, the foremost gathering of actors concerned with the protection and management of the world&#8217;s second largest rainforest.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pfbc-cbfp.org\/home.html\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">event<\/a>, which brought together more than 500 delegates from governments, international organisations, research institutions, civil society and the private sector, was an opportunity to present cutting-edge research and calls to action on the most pressing issues facing the region today.<\/p>\n<p>In one event, RFUK and APEM presented initial research findings into the scale of carbon offsetting projects in the Congo Basin, many of which are being established without the consultation of local communities, let alone their Free, Prior and Informed Consent. We also highlighted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rainforestfoundationuk.org\/new-report-sets-out-non-market-alternatives-to-flawed-forest-carbon-markets\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">a new report<\/a>\u00a0by RFUK, Forest Peoples Programme and FERN on non-market alternatives to voluntary offset markets and how this funding can more easily reach frontline communities.<\/p>\n<p>In another event, CADD and APEM highlighted the current impacts of strictly protected areas on the rights of Indigenous and local communities in the Republic of Congo and the DR Congo.
