Se trata de un hito importante en un pa\u00eds donde los pueblos ind\u00edgenas sufren una marginaci\u00f3n social, pol\u00edtica y econ\u00f3mica extrema.<\/p>\n<p>La investidura de Su Majestad Martin Abila como jefe oficial de la aldea de Assok es el resultado de varios a\u00f1os de trabajo y defensa por parte de los miembros de la comunidad y la sociedad civil camerunesa, en particular la organizaci\u00f3n <em>Apoyo a la autopromoci\u00f3n e inserci\u00f3n de mujeres, j\u00f3venes y discapacitados <\/em>(APIFED). Desde hace m\u00e1s de quince a\u00f1os, APIFED lucha para que los pueblos ind\u00edgenas del sur de Camer\u00fan reciban los mismos derechos que sus vecinos bant\u00faes.<\/p>\n<p>RFUK empez\u00f3 a trabajar con APIFED en 2014 en el marco de una iniciativa de cartograf\u00eda participativa para documentar las zonas gestionadas por los baka y proporcionar a las comunidades pruebas para defender sus derechos sobre la tierra y los recursos de los que dependen. Seis a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, el primer jefe baka del sur de Camer\u00fan fue finalmente reconocido e instalado con un territorio definido.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa esto para la poblaci\u00f3n de Assok y los baka en general?<\/p>\n<p>En primer lugar, la instalaci\u00f3n de SM Martin Abila confiere al pueblo una identidad legal y significa que puede votar en las elecciones y elevar las preocupaciones de las comunidades baka a los niveles regional y nacional a trav\u00e9s de canales oficiales.<\/p>\n<p>En segundo lugar, ahora que la comunidad figura oficialmente en el mapa, sus miembros tienen m\u00e1s posibilidades de acceder a servicios p\u00fablicos como la educaci\u00f3n, la sanidad y el carn\u00e9 de identidad, as\u00ed como a las regal\u00edas de las actividades forestales.<\/p>\n<p>Por \u00faltimo, este logro sin precedentes abre la puerta al reconocimiento oficial de m\u00e1s pueblos baka. En una regi\u00f3n donde los baka sufren una marginaci\u00f3n extrema, sus l\u00edderes suelen ser tratados como subordinados de sus hom\u00f3logos bant\u00faes. La investidura de SM Martin Abila env\u00eda un poderoso mensaje de que los jefes baka pueden y deben estar en pie de igualdad con los dem\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>El sue\u00f1o de la comunidad es utilizar el territorio de 60.000 hect\u00e1reas para establecer un bosque comunitario, una zona de inter\u00e9s cineg\u00e9tico gestionada por la comunidad y un centro cultural donde la gente pueda visitar a los baka y conocer su modo de vida.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque la instalaci\u00f3n de SM Martin Abila es un primer paso esencial para que los habitantes de Assok busquen v\u00edas antes inexistentes para asegurar legalmente sus tierras tradicionales, siguen careciendo de protecci\u00f3n. Necesitan m\u00e1s apoyo para reclamar sus derechos sobre esta zona y hacer realidad su visi\u00f3n de una gesti\u00f3n sostenible de los recursos forestales de los que depende su vida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">A mayor escala, Assok es una de las miles de aldeas baka del sur de Camer\u00fan.
