Hier, l'\u00e9quipe de la Rainforest Foundation UK \u00e9tait dans les for\u00eats pr\u00e8s d'Abong-Mbang, au Cameroun. Nous avons parl\u00e9 \u00e0 six membres d'une communaut\u00e9 locale, dont le chef, des probl\u00e8mes qu'ils rencontrent en raison de l'exploitation ill\u00e9gale de leurs for\u00eats. Pour eux, la for\u00eat est leur vie, leur moyen de subsistance. Ils ne peuvent tout simplement pas s'en passer.<\/p>\n

De nombreuses personnes ont parl\u00e9 de la\u00a0Moabi<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0et son importance pour le village. L'huile, d\u00e9riv\u00e9e des noix, a de multiples usages pour les populations foresti\u00e8res du Cameroun. C\u00e9cile (photo ci-dessus, \u00e0 droite) nous a dit que lorsque les noix sont tremp\u00e9es dans de l'eau chaude puis ing\u00e9r\u00e9es, cela peut aider \u00e0 soulager les maux de dos. L'huile est \u00e9galement utilis\u00e9e dans la cuisine. La communaut\u00e9 locale s'inqui\u00e8te de voir cet arbre dispara\u00eetre \u00e0 cause de l'exploitation ill\u00e9gale, notamment en raison de la valeur de son \u00e9corce.<\/p>\n

Les habitants de la for\u00eat comme C\u00e9cile comprennent mieux que quiconque l'importance de pr\u00e9server la biodiversit\u00e9 de la for\u00eat tropicale. Pour eux, la pr\u00e9servation de la for\u00eat est plus qu'une n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 \u00e9cologique, c'est un imp\u00e9ratif existentiel.<\/p>\n

Dans l'apr\u00e8s-midi, l'\u00e9quipe d'observateurs communautaires nouvellement form\u00e9s s'est rendue dans la for\u00eat proche du village pour mettre en pratique ce qu'ils avaient appris au cours de la semaine de formation.<\/p>\n

Chaque groupe a utilis\u00e9 le logiciel ForestLink pour envoyer une \"alerte\" test au syst\u00e8me, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 re\u00e7ue en temps r\u00e9el par le coordinateur SIG du RFUK, Peter Foster, dans nos bureaux de Londres.<\/p>\n

Georges-Thierry Handja, coordinateur de la cartographie pour le RFUK, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il ne pouvait pas \u00eatre plus heureux avec l'\u00e9quipe apr\u00e8s une semaine aussi r\u00e9ussie.<\/p>\n

\"Je pense que les observateurs communautaires sont plus que pr\u00eats \u00e0 commencer \u00e0 signaler les activit\u00e9s ill\u00e9gales qui se d\u00e9roulent actuellement dans leurs for\u00eats - des activit\u00e9s qui menacent le mode de vie de leurs communaut\u00e9s et la biodiversit\u00e9 de la for\u00eat tropicale camerounaise\".<\/p>\n
