Samuel Bashige is the Livelihoods Coordinator for Rainforest Foundation UK (RFUK) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon. A trained agricultural engineer, he has over ten years’ experience in designing and implementing community development programmes that balance forest conservation, food security and the economic resilience of rural communities. Before joining RFUK, Samuel led initiatives funded by several international partners, including USAID, Nestlé and the Trade and Development Bank, amongst others, within the landscapes of the Kahuzi-Biega, Virunga and Kundelungu National Parks. Passionate about participatory approaches, he supports communities in developing sustainable livelihoods through agroforestry, agricultural and livestock value chains, cooperatives and village savings and credit associations (AVECs), in the belief that stronger, more inclusive and more resilient communities are essential for the sustainable protection of tropical forests.
