Joe Eisen has been appointed as the Rainforest Foundation UK’s (RFUK’s) new executive director as incumbent Simon Counsell prepares to leave the organisation after leading it for the last 23 years.

Mr Eisen, who has led RFUK’s  policy and research team for five years and worked at the organisation for over a decade, said that he is “immensely honoured” to take on the leadership of the organisation.

“RFUK has successfully fought off some of the gravest threats to the world’s rainforests. As these threats evolve, and especially as the danger of climate change grows, our talented and committed team here will work tirelessly to support forest communities, who offer our best hope of saving these forests,”

said Mr Eisen.

Mr Counsell said that he was honoured to have been associated with its excellent and innovative work for forest peoples, driving real change on the ground.

“I am delighted to hand over to Joe Eisen, who has for many years already been key in delivering RFUK's strategic vision,”

said Mr Counsell.

Mr Eisen will take up the new position from January 2020.
