SCHOOL RAISES ALMOST £400 FOR RFUK ON THEIR 'RAINFOREST DAY'
Excited and enthralled by their topic, Year 5 at Aughton Christ Church School in Lancashire, arrived to a rainforest themed classroom with 'Explorer Swift' (A.K.A their teacher - Mr Swift) greeting them as they entered.
Throughout the morning, the children took part in rainforest games and also prepared their rainforest junk animals, readying them for construction. At break time children all had a specific role at an event station. These event stations included a throwing competition, running race and a penalty shoot out, which was an idea created by Year 5 to raise money for charities.
Children also had their own sponsored tasks to complete throughout the day such as sponsored silences, dancathons and even crazy hair.
"All the children looked fantastic in their themed fancy dress outfits and showed a great level of maturity and enthusiasm throughout the day. I was was very pleased!" said Mr Swift.
"So far the total raised stands at almost £400! Which we have decided to donate to the Rainforest Foundation UK as they do a lot of work to promote awareness of deforestation in the rainforest," he added.
Fumiko Roberts, who is RFUK's School's Fundraiser said: “We are so impressed with enthusiasm and imagination of these fundraisers! The funds raised by schools like Aughton Christ Church are so vital to allow and our work to continue, we can’t thank Year 5 enough!"
