NGOs call on Congolese General Prosecutor to investigate the role of several former ministers in illegal logging operations
May 5, 2022
A group of Congolese and international NGOs have written to DRCās General Prosecutor calling on him to investigateĀ reports of widespread illegal logging, which implicate as many as six former ministers.
On 1 April, the Environment ministry finally released a long-suppressed audit of the countryās logging industry by the CongoleseĀ General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), which found widespread illegal logging in the country. Although the government has since suspended twelve of the illegal concessions listed, this appears to be only aĀ fractionĀ of the total number.
